Azan Today is a free informational resource. We take great care over accuracy, but please read the points below before relying on anything you find here.
Not a source of religious rulings
Nothing on this site is a fatwa or personal religious advice. Islamic scholarship includes a range of valid opinions, and how a ruling applies can depend on your situation. For guidance on your own circumstances, please consult a qualified scholar or your local imam.
Prayer times are calculated estimates
- Times are calculated astronomically from coordinates and a chosen method. Different methods use different sun angles for Fajr and Isha, and the Hanafi and standard Asr times differ, so two correct timetables can disagree by several minutes or more.
- Results can also vary with your exact position within a city, elevation, local terrain and weather.
- At high latitudes (roughly above 48°), especially in summer, the sun may not go far enough below the horizon for normal Fajr and Isha calculations, so an approximation rule is used and the results are less certain.
- Many mosques add a few minutes’ precaution to their published times. When fasting, stop eating and drinking according to your local timetable, ideally with a few minutes to spare.
Your local mosque’s timetable and the guidance of your local scholars always take precedence over calculated times.
Hijri dates and Islamic events
Hijri dates on this site follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, which is calculated in advance. Many countries and communities begin months such as Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhul Hijjah by sighting the new moon, or follow another country’s announcement, so the actual date may be one day different. Please follow the announcement of your local religious authority. Remember that the Islamic day begins at sunset.
Quran translations and transliteration
The Arabic text is the Quran. English translations convey the meaning as understood by their translators and are not a substitute for the Arabic. Transliteration is an aid to pronunciation only; we encourage learning to recite from the Arabic with a qualified teacher.
Duas and hadith references
Each dua is given with its Quran or hadith reference so that you can check it. Hadith numbering can differ between printed editions and online collections, so if a number does not match your edition, search by the collection and chapter. Please report any error through our contact page.
Tools
- Qibla direction: compass readings on phones can be affected by calibration, metal objects and electronics. Confirm with a reliable local reference where possible.
- Zakat calculator: results are estimates based on the figures you enter and on gold and silver prices that change daily. Scholars differ on some details, such as which nisab to use and how to treat certain assets; consult a scholar for complex cases.
