About Azan Today
Last updated:
Azan Today is a free online guide to the everyday essentials of Muslim life: prayer times, the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, the Quran with recitation, authentic duas and the 99 Names of Allah. Our aim is simple: clear, accurate pages that load quickly on any phone and respect your time and your privacy.
What you will find here
- Prayer times for cities around the world, with monthly timetables and a choice of calculation methods.
- The Islamic calendar, today’s Hijri date, a Hijri date converter and expected dates of Islamic events such as Ramadan and the two Eids.
- The Quran in Arabic with English translation, transliteration and audio.
- Everyday duas, each with its source, and the 99 Names of Allah.
- Simple tools: Qibla direction, a tasbih counter and a zakat calculator.
Where our content comes from
- Quran text. The Arabic text is the Uthmani script published by the Tanzil project, downloaded from the Al Quran Cloud API and stored with the site. We never retype Quranic Arabic by hand. The English translation and transliteration used are named on the Quran pages.
- Duas. Every supplication is shown with a reference you can check: a Quran chapter and verse (for example 2:201), or a hadith collection and number (for example Sahih al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim). If we are not confident of the exact wording and its source, we leave it out.
- Prayer times. Times are calculated with the open-source Adhan library, which implements the standard astronomical formulas used by the major calculation authorities (Muslim World League, ISNA, Umm al-Qura, Egyptian General Authority of Survey, University of Islamic Sciences Karachi, and others). Each page names the method and Asr convention it uses.
- Hijri dates. Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar used officially in Saudi Arabia. Where communities begin months by local moon sighting, their dates can differ by a day, and we say so on the relevant pages.
Our editorial principles
- Accuracy first. We would rather publish fewer pages than publish anything we cannot source.
- Neutral and respectful. Where scholars hold different views, for example on calculation methods, moon sighting or particular observances, we describe the main positions briefly and fairly without taking sectarian sides.
- Plain English. Content is written in our own words to be understood by new Muslims, young people and anyone curious about Islam.
- Not a fatwa service. Azan Today is informational. For rulings on your own circumstances, please ask a qualified scholar or your local imam. See our disclaimer.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, whether a wrong prayer time for your city, a typo in a translation or a reference that does not match, please contact us with the page address and, if possible, a source. We review every report and correct confirmed errors as quickly as we can.
