Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what information Azan Today (“we”, “us”) collects when you use this website, how it is used, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain English.
In brief:
- You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your name to use any part of the site.
- Your location, when you choose to share it, is used only inside your browser and is never sent to our servers.
- We do not currently show adverts. If we start, we will update this policy first.
- We never sell your personal information for money.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include. We use it only to reply and to deal with your request.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard technical information when pages are requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the date and time. These server logs are used to keep the site secure and working and are kept only for a limited period. Analytics partners also collect information through cookies, as described below.
2. Cookies and advertising
Azan Today does not currently show adverts and does not set advertising cookies. If we add adverts in the future, for example Google AdSense, we will update this policy before they start and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.
3. Analytics
We may use analytics services, such as Google Analytics, to understand how many people visit, which pages are useful and how the site performs, so that we can improve it. These services use cookies or similar technologies to collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type. We use this information in aggregate and do not use it to identify you. Where the law requires it, analytics cookies are only used with your consent. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
4. Storage in your browser (local storage)
Some features remember your preferences using your browser’s local storage, for example your chosen prayer time calculation method and Asr setting, your rounded location for prayer times, or your tasbih count. This information stays on your device, is not sent to us and is not used for advertising. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser, or where offered, with a “forget” or “reset” button.
5. Your location
Features such as prayer times for your location and the Qibla direction can use your device’s location, but only after you press the relevant button and your browser asks for your permission. The calculation is done entirely in your browser:your location is never sent to or stored on our servers. If a feature remembers your location for next time, it stores rounded coordinates in your browser’s local storage only. You can refuse or withdraw location permission in your browser settings and choose a city instead.
6. Third-party content and services
Some content is loaded from third-party servers: Quran audio recitations are streamed from the Islamic Network CDN (cdn.islamic.network). Our fonts are hosted on this site, so no font service receives your data. When your browser loads content from these services, they receive standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type, and they handle it under their own privacy policies. Our hosting provider also processes server logs on our behalf. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their privacy practices.
7. How we use information and our legal bases
- To run, secure and improve the site (server logs, aggregated analytics): our legitimate interests in operating a reliable website, or your consent where required.
- To answer your messages: our legitimate interest in responding to you, or steps you ask us to take.
- To comply with the law when we are legally required to.
8. Sharing of information
We do not sell personal information for money. Information is shared only with service providers that help us run the site (such as our hosting provider), with advertising and analytics partners as described above, or where required by law.
9. How long we keep information
Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with your request and any follow-up, and are then deleted. Server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes. Cookies set by our partners are kept for the periods described in their policies.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR
If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).
Under the CCPA/CPRA (California)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used and shared, to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money, but the use of advertising cookies may count as “sharing” under California law. You can opt out through Google Ads Settings, your browser’s cookie controls, or by contacting us. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@azantoday.com. We may need to ask for information to confirm your request.
11. Children
Azan Today is suitable for families, but it is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. International transfers and security
Our service providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where this happens, they rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. The site is served over HTTPS, and we keep the personal information we hold to a minimum.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it was last changed.
