When to recite

When stopping at a place on a journey or arriving somewhere new, and in the evening.

Virtue

The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever stops at a place and says this, nothing will harm him until he moves on from that place. In another narration a man stung by a scorpion was told that had he said it in the evening, it would not have harmed him.

About this dua

The first narration is from Khawlah bint Hakim and the second from Abu Hurairah, both in Sahih Muslim. “The perfect words of Allah” refers to His speech, which is free of any flaw.
