Translation: O Allah, I submit myself to You, I entrust my affairs to You, I turn my face to You and I rely completely on You, out of hope in You and fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and in Your Prophet whom You sent.

When to recite

As the last words before falling asleep, after making wudu and lying on your right side.

Virtue

The Prophet ﷺ said that if you die that night, you will die upon the fitrah (the natural state of faith).

About this dua

Narrated by al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib. In one narration (Bukhari 6311) the Prophet ﷺ instructed him to perform wudu, lie on his right side, say this dua and make it the last thing he says. When al-Bara’ repeated it back saying “and Your Messenger”, the Prophet ﷺ corrected him to “and Your Prophet whom You sent”, showing the care taken over the exact wording.
