About Surah Al-Kawthar
Al-Kawthar, "Abundance", is the shortest surah of the Quran: three short verses. Allah tells the Prophet ﷺ that He has given him al-Kawthar, commands him to pray and sacrifice for his Lord alone, and declares that it is his enemy who is cut off.
In the hadith
- When it was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ explained that al-Kawthar is a river in Paradise that his Lord has promised him. (Sahih Muslim 400)
Surah Al-Kawthar is one of the last 10 surahs of the Quran, which many Muslims memorise first and recite in daily prayers.

Arabic text: Uthmani script (Tanzil). English translation: Marmaduke Pickthall (1930, public domain). Transliteration: English transliteration from the Al Quran Cloud API, in a simple English spelling (it writes the Arabic letter dhal as “z”, while the duas on this site write it as “dh”). Audio: Mishary Rashid Alafasy. A translation conveys the meaning of the Quran; it is not the Quran itself.
