About Surah Al-Ikhlas
Al-Ikhlas, "Sincerity", is four short verses that sum up the Islamic belief in the oneness of God (tawhid): Allah is One, the Eternal Refuge; He neither begets nor is born, and there is nothing comparable to Him. It is among the first surahs children learn and is recited very often in prayer.
In the hadith
- The Prophet ﷺ said that Al-Ikhlas is equal to one third of the Quran. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5013; Sahih Muslim 811)
- Each night before sleeping, he would recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas into his cupped hands and wipe over his body. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017)
Surah Al-Ikhlas is one of the last 10 surahs of the Quran, which many Muslims memorise first and recite in daily prayers.

Arabic text: Uthmani script (Tanzil). English translation: Marmaduke Pickthall (1930, public domain). Transliteration: English transliteration from the Al Quran Cloud API, in a simple English spelling (it writes the Arabic letter dhal as “z”, while the duas on this site write it as “dh”). Audio: Mishary Rashid Alafasy. A translation conveys the meaning of the Quran; it is not the Quran itself.
