Mawlid an-Nabi 2027: The Prophet's Birthday
المَوْلِد النَّبَوِي · 12 Rabi al-Awwal (commonly observed date). Also known as Mawlid, Milad un-Nabi, Eid Milad un-Nabi, Prophet's birthday, 12 Rabi al-Awwal.
When is Mawlid an-Nabi 2027?
Mawlid an-Nabi 1449 AH is expected on Saturday, 14 August 2027 (12 Rabi al-Awwal 1449). Like every Islamic day, it begins at sunset the evening before. That is in 307 days (about 43 weeks).
Based on the Umm al-Qura calendar. In countries that begin months with local moon sighting, the date may be one day later. Please confirm with your local mosque.
Mawlid an-Nabi (also Milad un-Nabi) marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which took place in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant, around 570 CE. It is most commonly observed on 12 Rabi al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, and is a public holiday in many Muslim-majority countries.
Historians give several dates for the Prophet's birth within Rabi al-Awwal, with the 12th being the most widely accepted. All agree that he was born on a Monday: when asked about fasting on Mondays, he said "That is the day on which I was born" (Sahih Muslim 1162).

In the Quran
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةًۭ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ ﴿١٠٧﴾
We sent thee not save as a mercy for the peoples.
Lo! Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O ye who believe! Ask blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation.
How the day is observed
Where Mawlid is celebrated, gatherings typically include recitation of the Quran, poetry in praise of the Prophet ﷺ, talks about his life (the seerah), sending blessings (salawat) upon him, and feeding people. Allah commands believers to send blessings upon the Prophet (Quran 33:56) and describes him as a mercy to the worlds (Quran 21:107), and learning about his life is valued by all Muslims.
The Prophet ﷺ himself marked the day of his birth each week by fasting on Mondays (Sahih Muslim 1162), a practice that any Muslim can follow.
Recommended practices

- Learn about and follow the life and character of the Prophet ﷺ. (Quran 33:21)
Where scholars differ
Scholars differ on Mawlid. Many regard a celebration focused on gratitude, learning the seerah and sending blessings as a praiseworthy practice; others hold that, since the Prophet and his companions did not hold such a celebration, it should not be treated as a religious observance. Historians also differ on the exact date of birth (the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th of Rabi al-Awwal have all been proposed). We present the commonly observed date without taking a position.

Is Mawlid a public holiday?
Yes, in many countries including Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco, Malaysia and Indonesia. Saudi Arabia does not hold an official holiday for it.
Why do some Muslims not celebrate Mawlid?
Some scholars hold that because the Prophet and his companions did not celebrate his birthday, it should not be made a religious occasion. Others consider it a good practice. Both views exist within mainstream Sunni scholarship.
